Welcome back to PathPicker, the student newsletter telling you the real scoop about student life that you don’t get from your counselor.
In this issue:
💸 A no-essay scholarship worth 3k
🧠 Why science says to not read your notes
The Scholarship Bread
We started PathPicker because there was no student newsletter actually telling you about the stuff you care about, and paying for school is a big one.

We find scholarships for you constantly. Ones that take under a minute. Ones nobody else is sending you. That's just part of the deal here, because we actually give a sh**.
But this one is ours. We actually built it.
$3,000. No essay. Winners picked a few times a year. Takes less than 30 seconds to enter.
We're keeping this quiet on purpose. The smaller the applicant pool, the better your odds. So I'm not blasting the link everywhere. Just reply to this email and I'll send it straight to you.
Stop Rereading, Start Testing Yourself
New research came out on student study habits found that 84% of students reread their notes or textbook, and many listed it as their number one study strategy.
The problem is that the new study performed on 217 students found that testing yourself was consistently better than looking back at your notes for learning.

So if your study plan is just reread, highlight, panic, repeat, that may be the problem.
Your brain gets stronger when it has to pull the answer out by itself, not when it just looks at the page again.
The better move is simple.
Read it once. Close your notes. Try to say or write what you remember. Check what you missed. Then do it again later instead of cramming it all in one night.
Flashcards count. Practice questions count. Writing everything you remember on a blank sheet of paper counts too.
Or even better, just have Claude or ChatGPT just make mock quizzes for you. Rereading feels easier, but easier is not always better for memory.
Your highlighter is not useless. It is just not the hero of the story anymore.
Be honest how do you mostly study?
👋 That's a wrap. Go touch grass, and get on that scholarship!
